Kerala logs 20,772 COVID cases, 116 deaths, TPR at 13.61 pc
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 20,772 new Covid cases on Friday, informed the health department through a press release. With 116 new fatalities, the death toll mounted to 16,701. Triggering panic, the test positivity rate climbed to 13.61 percent.

A total of 1,52,639 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. In total, 2,70,49,431 samples including routine sample, sentinel sample, CBNAAT, Truenat, POCT, PCR, RTLAMP, antigen were sent for the tests.
137 of the new COVID patients were returned from outside the state. 19,622 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 932 patients remains unidentified.

81 health workers also tested positive for Covid-19. Among them, 28 were from Kannur, 13 from Palakkad, 8 each from Thrissur and Wayanad, 6 from Kasaragod, 4 each from Kollam and Ernakulam, 3 from Malappuram, 2 each from Kottayam and Kozhikode, 1 each from Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta and Idukki.
Meanwhile, 14,651 recoveries were also reported in the state.
The district-wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram- 1169, Kollam-1382, Pathanamthitta-271, Alappuzha-983, Kottayam-740, Idukki-222, Ernakulam-1599, Thrissur-2659, Palakkad-908, Malappuram-1838, Kozhikode-1029, Wayanad-239, Kannur-959 and Kasaragod- 653.
With this, the number of active cases touched 1,60,824 in the state. 31,92,104 people were recovered from the disease so far.
4,56,951 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 4,29,118 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 27,833 people are in hospitals. 2804 people were taken to hospitals on Friday.
There are 62 local bodies with TPR below 5 percent; 294 local bodies with TPR between 5-10 percent, 355 local bodies with TPR between 10-15 percent and 323 local bodies with TPR above 15 percent.
