Kerala logs 20,487 new Covid cases on Saturday; 181 fatalities, TPR at 15.19
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 20,487 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday, the health department informed in a press release. With 181 new fatalities, the death toll mounted to 22,484. Test positivity rate was recorded at 15.19 percent.
The district - wise statistics of positive cases: Thrissur - 2812, Ernakulam - 2490, Thiruvananthapuram - 2217, Kozhikode - 2057, Kollam - 1660, Palakkad - 1600, Malappuram - 1554, Alappuzha - 1380, Kottayam - 1176, Wayanad – 849, Kannur - 810, Idukki - 799, Pathanamthitta - 799, and Kasaragod - 284.
A total of 1,34,861 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The local bodies have been categorised on the basis of the weekly infection population ratio (WIPR). WIPR is above 7 in the wards of 794 local bodies. Among them, 692 wards are in urban areas and 3416 are in rural areas.
6,13,495 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 5,81,858 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 31,637 people are in hospitals. 2272 people were taken to hospitals on Saturday.
Among the 2,31,792 Covid cases reported currently, only 12.9 percent patients are admitted to hospitals / field hospitals.
102 of the new COVID patients were returned from outside the state. 19,497 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 793 patients remains unidentified. 95 health workers also tested positive for Covid-19.
Meanwhile, 26,155 recoveries were also reported in the state.
The district - wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram - 1779, Kollam - 2063, Pathanamthitta - 1344, Alappuzha - 1738, Kottayam - 1463, Idukki - 863, Ernakulam - 3229, Thrissur - 2878, Palakkad - 1931, Malappuram - 2641, Kozhikode - 3070, Wayanad - 986, Kannur - 1550 and Kasaragod - 620.
With this, the number of active cases touched 2,31,792 in the state. 41,00,355 were recovered from the disease so far.
