Kerala logs 20,240 new COVID cases, 67 fatalities, TPR at 17.51 pc
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 20,240 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday, the health department informed in a press release. With 67 new fatalities, the death toll mounted to 22,551. Test positivity rate was recorded at 17.51 percent.
The district - wise statistics of positive cases: Ernakulam-2572, Thrissur-2451, Thiruvananthapuram- 1884, Kozhikode- 1805, Kottayam-1780, Kollam-1687, Palakkad-1644, Malappuram-1546, Kannur-1217, Alappuzha-1197, Idukki-825, Pathanamthitta-779, Wayanad-566 and Kasaragod-287.
A total of 1,15,575 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The local bodies have been categorised on the basis of the weekly infection population ratio (WIPR). WIPR is above 7 in the wards of 794 local bodies. Among them, 692 wards are in urban areas and 3416 are in rural areas.
6,03,315 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 5,72,761 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 30,554 people are in hospitals. 1993 people were taken to hospitals on Sunday.
Among the 2,22,255 Covid cases reported currently, only 12.9 percent patients are admitted to hospitals / field hospitals.
114 of the new COVID patients were returned from outside the state. 19,251 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 774 patients remains unidentified. 101 health workers also tested positive for Covid-19.
Meanwhile, 29,710 recoveries were also reported in the state.
The district - wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram - 2618, Kollam-3039, Pathanamthitta- 1338, Alappuzha-1853, Kottayam -1611, Idukki -1110, Ernakulam-3773, Thrissur-2845, Palakkad-1961, Malappuram-3092, Kozhikode-3241, Wayanad-1114, Kannur-1592 and Kasaragod- 523.
With this, the number of active cases touched 2,22,255 in the state. 41,30,065 were recovered from the disease so far.
