Kerala logs 17,983 new COVID cases, 127 fatalities, over 2000 patients in 2 districts
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 17, 983 new Covid-19 cases on Friday, informed health department in a press release. With 127 new fatalities, the death toll mounted to 24,318. A total of 1,10,523 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.
The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Thrissur-2784, Ernakulam-2397, Thiruvananthapuram-1802, Kollam-1500, Kottayam-1367, Kozhikode-1362, Palakkad-1312, Malappuram-1285, Alappuzha-1164, Idukki-848, Kannur-819, Pathanamthitta-759, Idukki-848, Wayanad- 338 and Kasaragod-246.
The local bodies have been categorised on the basis of the weekly infection population ratio (WIPR). WIPR is above 10 in 841 wards of 422 local self-governments. Strict restrictions will continue in these places.
4,69,954 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 4,47,442 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 22,512 people are in hospitals. 1807 people were taken to hospitals on Friday.
Among the 1,62,846 active Covid cases reported, only 12.6 percent patients are admitted to hospitals / field hospitals.
72 of the new COVID patients were returned from outside the state. 16,918 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 877 patients remains unidentified. 116 health workers also tested positive for Covid-19.
Meanwhile, 15,054 recoveries were also reported in the state.

With this, the number of active cases touched 1,62,846 in the state. 44,09,530 were recovered from the disease so far.
