Kerala logs 17,681 COVID cases, 208 fatalities
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 17,681 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, informed Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan here. With 208 new fatalities, the death toll mounted to 22,987.
The district - wise statistics of positive cases: Thiruvananthapuram-2143, Kottayam-1702, Kozhikode-1680, Ernakulam-1645, Thrissur- 1567, Palakkad-1558, Malappuram-1372, Kollam-1348, Alappuzha-969, Kannur-967, Wayanad- 869, Pathanamthitta-821, Idukki-654 and Kasaragod-386.
A total of 97,070 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The local bodies have been categorised on the basis of the weekly infection population ratio (WIPR). WIPR is above 8 in 2507 wards in 678 local self-governments.
5,61,239 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 5,33,190 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 28,049 people are in hospitals. 1718 people were taken to hospitals on Wednesday.
Among the 1,90,750 Covid cases reported currently, only 13.7 percent patients are admitted to hospitals / field hospitals.
47 of the new COVID patients were returned from outside the state. 16,656 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 881 patients remains unidentified. 97 health workers also tested positive for Covid-19.
Meanwhile, 25,588 recoveries were also reported in the state.
The district - wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram - 1888, Kollam - 1175, Pathanamthitta - 1161, Alappuzha - 1520, Kottayam - 1485, Idukki - 1019, Ernakulam - 3377, Thrissur - 2807, Palakkad - 1855, Malappuram - 2864, Kozhikode - 3368, Wayanad - 956, Kannur – 1767 and Kasaragod - 346.
With this, the number of active cases touched 1,90,750 in the cases. 42,09,746 were recovered from the disease so far.
