Kerala logs 14,424 new Covid cases on Thursday; 194 fatalities

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 14,424 new Covid cases on Thursday, informed a press release issued by the health department. With 194 new fatalities, the death toll mounted to 10,631. Test positivity rate was recorded at 13.45 percent.

The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Thiruvananthapuram - 2030, Kollam – 1605, Malappuram – 1597, Ernakulam - 1596, Thrissur - 1359, Palakkad - 1312, Kozhikode - 1008, Alappuzha - 848, Kannur - 750, Idukki – 673, Kottayam - 580, Kasaragod – 443, Pathanamthitta - 429 and Wayanad - 194.

A total of 1,07,250 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. In total, 2,09,10,418 samples including routine sample, sentinel sample, CBNAAT, Truenat, POCT, PCR, RTLAMP, antigen were sent for the tests.

109 of the new COVID patients were returned from outside the state. 13,535 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 718 patients remains unidentified.

The district-wise statistics of contact cases: Thiruvananthapuram - 1931, Kollam – 1596, Malappuram – 1540, Ernakulam - 1525, Thrissur - 1347, Palakkad - 837, Kozhikode - 999, Alappuzha - 842, Kannur - 705, Idukki – 656, Kottayam - 547, Kasaragod – 429, Pathanamthitta - 415 and Wayanad - 166.

62 health workers also tested positive for Covid-19. Among them, 11 each were from Ernakulam and Kasaragod, 8 from Kannur, 7 from Thrissur, 6 from Kollam, 5 from Thiruvananthapuram, 4 each from Pathanamthitta and Wayanad, 3 from Kottayam, 2 from Palakkad ad 1 from Malappuram.

Meanwhile, 17,994 recoveries were also reported in the state.

The district-wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram – 1481, Kollam - 1858, Pathanamthitta - 513, Alappuzha - 1540, Kottayam - 742, Idukki - 575, Ernakulam - 2043, Thrissur - 1254, Palakkad - 1677, Malappuram - 3392, Kozhikode - 1303, Wayanad - 278, Kannur - 922 and Kasaragod - 416.

With this, the number of active cases touched 1,35,298 in the state. 25,42,242 people recovered from the disease so far.

5,80,417 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 5,48,451 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 31,966 people are in hospitals. 2820 people were taken to hospitals on Thursday.

Two new places were added to the list of hotspots on Thursday and no place was removed from the list. Currently, there are 891 hotspots in the state.
