Kerala logs 12,616 new COVID cases, 134 fatalities, 14,516 recoveries
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 12,616 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, informed health department in a press release. With 134 new fatalities, the death toll mounted to 25,811. The test positivity rate was recorded at 12.77 percent.
The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Ernakulam-1932, Thiruvananthapuram- 1703, Kozhikode-1265, Thrissur-1110, Malappuram-931, Kollam-869, Kottayam-840, Pathanamthitta-766, Kannur-698, Idukki-656, Palakkad- 634, Alappuzha-569, Wayanad-440 and Kasaragod-203.
A total of 98,782 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The local bodies have been categorised on the basis of the weekly infection population ratio (WIPR). WIPR is above 10 in 745 wards of 368 local self-government bodies.
3,90,631 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 3,75,306 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 15,325 people are in hospitals. 918 people were taken to hospitals on Wednesday.
Among the 1,22,407 active Covid cases reported, only 11 percent of patients are admitted to hospitals / field hospitals.
49 of the new COVID patients were returned from outside the state. 12,018 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 452 patients remains unidentified. 97 health workers also tested positive for Covid-19.
Meanwhile, 14,516 recoveries were also reported in the state. The district-wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram –1508, Kollam-78, Pathanamthitta-812, Alappuzha-944, Kottayam-1037, Idukki-651, Ernakulam-2328, Thrissur-1420, Palakkad-759, Malappuram-1153, Kozhikode-2322, Wayanad-735, Kannur-642 and Kasaragod-127.
With this, the number of active cases touched 1,22,407 in the state. 46,02,600 were recovered from the disease so far.
