Thiruvananthapuram: In the by-elections to 15 wards in various local self-governments (LSG) in the state, LDF won eight seats and UDF managed to bag seven.

Four of the 7 seats won by UDF were with LDF earlier. They also won a seat which was earlier represented by an independent member. Three seats were captured by the LDF from the UDF.

However, the results did not affect the existing governing bodies of the LSGs.

The elections were held to wards in 11 grama panchayats in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kannur districts; one block panchayat ward in Malappuram district; and three municipality wards in Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam and Wayanad districts.

Election to the ward five of Muttar panchayat in Alappuzha was a tie. LDF won the seat by sortition. BJP did not win a single seat in this elections.
