Kerala likely to cancel holiday on Saturday for govt offices
Thiruvananthapuram: The Public Administration Department has recommended to cancel the holiday implemented on Saturdays in government offices. It has also instructed all offices to be fully functional from September 22. A final decision in this regard will be taken at the Covid evaluation meet held under Chief Minister.
At present, only 50 percent employees are working in government offices at a time except those in essential services. The holiday on Saturday was implemented as part of lockdown restrictions. However, as public transport system is not fully operational, relaxations may be given for those who need to travel to other districts. They might be asked to report to district collectors and work there. Once, public transport is restored they have to return to concerned office.
The central government had decided to restart operations in various sectors as part of unlocking 4. Hence PWD has decided not to restrict government offices further as it is affecting developmental activities.
