Thiruvananthapuram: In protest over the denial of permission for adjournment motion, the opposition members organized a symbolic assembly session in front of the Kerala assembly. MLA P K Basheer acted as the symbolic chief minister and all the procedures in the normal assembly were followed in the symbolic session too. N Shamsudheen was the symbolic Speaker.
Earlier, the Opposition served a notice for adjournment motion requesting to discuss the statement of the accused in the gold smuggling case revealing the chief minister’s role in dollar smuggling. The adjournment motion was moved by MLA P T Thomas requesting discussion on the matter.
However, the Speaker MB Rajesh denied permission for the adjournment motion. He said that holding a discussion on the matter only on the basis of the statement of the accused is not right. He added that the matter is under consideration of various courts and it doesn't have to be discussed in the assembly.
Soon after the permission was denied, the opposition boycotted the assembly and staged a sit-in-protest in front of the entrance. Following this, they organized the symbolic assembly outside and PT Thomas presented the adjournment motion. P K Kunhalikutty, P J Joseph and Anoop Jacob also addressed the members after this. The opposition is organizing such a protest in front of the assembly for the first time.
