Sabarimala temple to open today, 15,000 devotees allowed per day

Sabarimala: The doors of the Lord Ayappa temple here will open on Saturday for the monthly poojas in the Malayalam month of Kumbham. Head priest MN Parameswaran Namboothiri will open the sanctum sanctorum and light the lamp in the presence of tantri Kandararu Maheswararu Mohanaru.

Devotees will be allowed to enter the temple from Sunday onwards. Only those who have booked via the virtual queue system will be permitted to visit the temple. The authority has decided to allow 15,000 devotees per day at the temple. Strict COVID protocol will be in place.

Those who are visiting the temple must carry ID proof and certificate of two COVID-19 vaccine doses or RT-PCR negative certificate taken within 72 hours prior to reaching Sabarimala.

The temple will close on February 17, Thursday. Later, the hill shrine will reopen on March 8 for the monthly poojas in the Malayalam month of Meenam and Uthram festival. ‘Kodiyettam’ will be held on March 9. The temple doors will close on March 19 after the Panguni Uthram Aarattu.
