Kottayam couple held for attacking policemen

Kottayam: Cops who came to investigate a snatching case were attacked by the accused and his wife here. Three policemen of Karukachal Police station were injured. Later, the police have registered a case against Biju (50) and his wife Manju (46) in connection with the incident.

Earlier, Prasad, an autorickshaw driver, lodged a complaint that his purse and money were snatched by Biju while returning home on Tuesday night. According to the complaint, Biju stopped Prasad's vehicle and snatched his purse which carried Rs 5,000.

After informing the Karukachal police station about the incident, Prasad sought treatment at Pampady Taluk Hospital after sustaining an injury to his leg. Following this, Policemen went to the accused's house to investigate the matter.

Karukachal police reached Biju's house around 9.30 pm on Tuesday. While trying to flee, Biju attacked CPO Vineeth R Nair and went on to bite him. During this scuffle, his wife attacked CPOs PT Bijulal and Bibin Balachandran using a wooden plank. Biju tried to escape again but was overpowered by the police.

Manimala police have registered a case against Manju for assaulting the police, and Karukachal police have registered a case against Biju for extorting money from Prasad. Both were produced in court and remanded.
