Army team lifts Babu with rope; food and water supplied

Palakkad: The army team has started lifting the youth trapped on the Cherad hills of Malampuzha with a rope. According to reports, the team has given food and water to Babu on Wednesday morning. One of his friends reported that he will be rescued safely within minutes. It is learnt that the rescue operation is in the last phase. He will be taken to the hospital immediately after the rescue.

A 30-member team is engaged in the rescue operation. They are deployed as two teams for the mission. Babu’s friends are also with the team.

It was around Monday afternoon, Babu and his two friends left to explore Koormbachi hills. Though his friends dropped the expedition midway, Babu continued to ascend the hills. According to reports, he got trapped in a crevice which is situated around half kilometres from the top of the hill. It is hard to spot him from the top or bottom of the hill. Babu phoned his family till 7.30 pm on Monday. But later, his phone became unreachable.

According to reports, he is being lifted after attaching security belts to him. A two-member team of army ascended to the 200-metre feet deep crevice on the hills.

“Two units of the army reached the spot for carrying out the rescue operation. One of the teams climbed to the hills while the other team managed the mission from the bottom of the hills. The helicopter of the Air Force is also ready for the rescue operation,” informed the Chief Minister.
