Sonia, Sarasamma, Roshni
Plappally: In a very unfortunate incident, three women who were close friends and neighbours were swept away in the landslide occurred here on Saturday morning.
The deceased have been identified as Sonia (44), wife of Jomi Attuchalil; Roshni (42), wife of Venu Mundakassery; and Sarasamma (58), wife of Mohanan Panthalattil. Along with them, Sonia's son Alan (12) also died.
The bodies of the women and the child were recovered on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred when heavy rain on Saturday morning caused a small landslide near Jomi's house. Jomi's wife Sonia, son Alan and Roshni came to see it.
They were standing near Sarasamma’s tea shop when Jomi's house fell on top of the shop as a result of the landslide. During the incident, husbands of the three women were standing outside the shop. The mishap took place in front of their eyes.
The locals reached the spot late at night as the roads from Kootickal were blocked by landslides.
