Kochi: Environmentalist Prof M K Prasad passed away at a private hospital here on Monday morning.
He is known for spearheading the Silent Valley movement. He was a veteran leader of the NGO Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parishad. He played a crucial role in shaping the Integrated Rural Technology Centre of KSSP at Mundur in Palakkad.
A trained biologist, Prasad taught in various colleges in Kerala. He was the principal of Maharajas College, Ernakulam and Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Calicut University.
Prof Prasad was a member of UN’s Millennium Ecosystem Assessment Board, the World Wide Fund of Nature – India, International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN-CEC), Governing Council of the Centre for Environment Education (CEE) and the Kerala State Biodiversity Board. He also chaired the Programme Advisory Committee of the MS Swaminathan Research Foundation’s Agro Biodiversity Centre, Wayanad.
Prasad has authored numerous books.
