Pathanamthitta: The Kerala High Court on Friday stayed the order to impound the vehicle of Pathanamthitta district collector Dr Divya S Iyer. Earlier, a sub court had ordered to impound five vehicles, including the collector’s vehicle, on a petition filed by a Pathanamthitta native.
The sub court order was passed in connection with the case of non-payment of compensation for the land acquired for the Pathanamthitta ring road development. However, the district administration has now secured a favourable verdict against the order.
The high court, while considering the petition filed by the district administration in this regard, has temporarily suspended the impounding proceedings.
Apparently, the court had earlier ordered payment of Rs 38 lakh, including interests, as compensation for the 3 cents of land acquired in 2008 as part of the ring road project.
However, a Pathanamthitta native approached the sub court stating non-payment of the compensation. Following which, the court ordered impounding the vehicles to settle the matter.
Following this, the district administration approached the high court and the order was stayed temporarily.
