Kochi: High Court of Kerala has sought report from the central government regarding a petition that requested expats be brought back to the country. The court asked the government to give a report explaining the chances of bringing back the Indians stranded abroad under the current context. The court also stated that the actions of the central government cannot be questioned at this point in time.

The petition was filed in the High Court by Dubai KMCC.

Expats, including those whose visas have expired, are stuck in foreign countries. They are facing huge challenges. Emirates flight company is ready to take NRI’s to India from Gulf countries, if permitted by central government.

The major point in the petition is that those who are not affected by COVID-19 should be brought to the country after testing. It is in this context that High Court sought a report from Central government explaining the current situation.

High court also said that the Central government cannot be questioned as these are extraordinary times in the country. The court also mentioned the order that mandated people to remain where they are during lockdown.

The court asked the government to inform if there is a diplomatic decision to bring the expats back owing to their struggles.

The court will again consider the case on April 17.
