Kerala HC issues stay on election for directors’ board of Kerala Bank
Kochi: In a major setback to the state government, the Kerala High Court issued a stay on the election for board of directors of Kerala Bank for three weeks. The final voters list was to be published on Thursday.
Government had decided to conduct the election on September 25. With the intervention from HC, this is expected to be delayed.
The bank administrative committee chairmen, who are Congress leaders, had approached the HC stating that the methods adopted by the government for the election were in violation of guidelines. Now, HC issued a stay on the procedures.
The formation of Kerala Bank, which was created by merging 13 district cooperative banks (DCBs) in the state with Kerala State Co-operative Bank, was realized by the LDF government amidst protests and resistance from opposition.
