Sister Sephy, Fr Thomas Kottoor
Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Thursday suspended the lower court verdict and granted bail to Sister Abhaya murder case convicts Father Thomas Kottoor, 70, and Sister Sephy, 56. They were asked to pay a bond of Rs 5 lakh and not to leave the state under any circumstances.
In December 2020, a special Thiruvananthapuram CBI Court sentenced Fr Kottoor and Sr Sephy to life imprisonment. They appealed before the high court stating the CBI relied solely on a witness statement and did not present any circumstantial evidences. They had asked the court to suspend the verdict of the special court.
The convicts were on bail during the Covid-19 lockdown period and returned to jail in October 2021.
