Thiruvananthapuram: The state cabinet here on Wednesday decided to bring an ordinance for removing governor Arif Mohammed Khan as chancellor of the state universities. The decision was taken in the cabinet meeting held here on Wednesday.

The government is considering the proposal of a legislature to appoint ministers or academic experts to replace the governor in the post of chancellor.

The subject was discussed in the cabinet meeting as a matter outside the agenda. Earlier, it was reported that the cabinet will summon a special assembly session in December to remove the governor as chancellor.

The cabinet will recommend a special assembly session after confirming the governor’s response to the ordinance.

However, the ordinance will come into force only if the governor gives his assent.
