Kerala govt spent Rs five crores over various political murder case trials, reveals RTI reply
Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has spent more than Rs five crores over court trials in various political murder cases, including Periya case and Shuhaib murder case, reveals an RTI reply. The amount was spent mostly for paying fees of lawyers and other allied expenses.
According to the reply of an RTI filed by KPCC Secretary Adv CR Pranakumar, the state government has spent Rs 5.034 crores from June 2016 to May 2021 just to settle the fees of advocates, from other states. Rs 24,94,249 was spent for flight tickets and Rs 8,59,996 for food and accommodation of these lawyers.
The government has spent Rs 1.77 crores for trials in Periya twin murder case and Shuhaib murder case. For Periya case, government has spent Rs 88 lakhs as lawyer fees and Rs 2,92,337 for flight ticket and accommodation of lawyers. Meanwhile, in Shuhaib case government has spent Rs 86 lakhs as lawyer fees and Rs 6,35,300 for flight ticket, food and accommodation.
