Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has planned a grand inauguration ceremony for its ambitious project KFON (Kerala Fibre Optic Network) scheduled on June 5 at the Sankaranarayanan Thampi Hall inside the Kerala Legislative Assembly complex. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the event to be organised under the coordination of IT, local self government, power and PRD departments.

The government will grant Rs 25,000 for each constituency in the state to facilitate the events to mark the celebrations of the inauguration. Committees for the inaugural events will be formed with MLAs as the chairman in the respective constituencies. The local self governing institutions are entrusted to ensure the maximum public participation.

The official inauguration of the project by CM will be streamed live in every constituency.

The Kerala government has devised the KFON project to launch universal access to the internet with free service for the backward communities, educational institutions and government offices. Internet connectivity will be made available to others at lower rates.
