Thiruvananthapuram: The eighth session of the 150th Kerala Legislative Assembly will commence with the official policy address of governor Arif Mohammed Khan. The government has made the move after the governor approved the re-induction of CPM MLA Saji Cheriyan into the state cabinet. With this, it is hinted that the government and governor are ready to compromise with each other after month-long issues.
Earlier, the government had planned to skip the governor's policy address as a continuation of the 7th assembly session. But as the governor has agreed to administer the oath for Saji Cheriyan in his swearing-in ceremony, the government decided to withdraw its decision.
Though the 7th assembly session was completed in December, the cabinet didn't recommend the governor on the adjournment. Hence, the government can summon the assembly session in January as a continuation of the 7th session. Hence, there will be no need to invite the governor for a policy address. As the government has changed its stance, it will officially inform the governor that the 7th assembly session was adjourned.
The cabinet will meet on Thursday and recommend the governor to summon the 8th assembly session. A decision on the date of the session will be taken in the virtual cabinet meeting.
