Thiruvananthapuram: Reports have emerged that the state government has granted pension to the daughter of Thoppil Bhasi, the iconic playwright-director and litterateur, whose works contributed to Communist movement in Kerala.
The state government has allowed pension for the freedom fighter’s family, namely Bhasi’s daughter, by flouting the rules of approval. Generally unmarried or unemployed legal heir of the freedom fighter will be offered pension. More often, the wife of the deceased gets the benefit. But at times, the benefit is given to unmarried or unemployed daughters of the freedom fighter.
The state government allowed pension to Bhasi’s daughter A Mala after the death of his wife Ammini Amma who was getting the benefit. The government allowed pension over the collector’s report that Mala is a widow with two daughters and has no income source.
However, both her daughters are employed. This has sparked controversy.
