Kerala Governor worried over increasing use of drugs
Thiruvananthapuram: Governor Arif Muhammad Khan expressed concern on the rapid increase in the consumption of drugs and narcotics in the state despite 100 percent literacy. He was speaking on the occasion of fortnight-long Gandhi Jayanti celebrations organised by the Kerala Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi.
The Governor said that recent studies show an alarming increase in the use of drugs amongst students. ‘’It is shocking to see that God’s own country is gradually succumbing to intoxicants. Organisations like Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi should be in the forefront in spreading awareness against the use of alcohol and drugs in the state’’, said Governor assuring his support in the fight against drug abuse.
He said there should be a concerted effort to curb the use of drugs. The Governor also said message of non violence and ahimsa should be disseminated to 2 crore families in the country. At the function, Principles of various school, submitted their consent letters to nurture Gandhian principles in their respective schools to the governor.
N. Radhakrishnan, Chairman of the Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi, presided the function. Freedom fighter P.Gopinathan Nair, Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi Secretary Gandhi Dharshan director Dr.Jacob Pullikan spoke at the function.
