Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan recommended to appoint BJP state committee member Hari S Kartha as his additional personal assistant.

A file in relation to the recommendation was sent to the Chief Minister via chief secretary. The CM will take a final decision regarding the appointment. The salary scale for the post of additional PA is Rs 50,200- 1,05,300.

It is not a convention to appoint a person who has direct allegiance to a political party to the Governor's personal staff. Hari S Kartha, who was a former BJP media cell convener, also worked as chief editor of Janmabhumi daily and as executive editor in Amrita TV. He was also a correspondent at Economics Times and Financial Express.

The Governor can recommend appointment of his personal staff. But it has to be approved by the government. The Governor has recommended for a quo terminus appointment in which the service of the candidate will cease with the resignation of the Governor. The tenure of Arif Mohammad Khan will end by September 2024.
