Kozhikode: Kerala forest minister AK Saseendran has come out against BJP MP Maneka Gandhi over her take on the Kerala cabinet’s decision to empower local bodies to cull wild boars.
Reacting to her remarks on the matter, Saseendran said that she has not put forth any solutions to curb the wild boar menace. “It is easy to watch the game from the gallery. We cannot turn a blind eye to the issues faced by the people in hilly regions,” he said.
Saseendran pointed out that wild boars entering human settlements and posing threat to human life and property is a reality.
BJP MP Maneka Gandhi had slammed the decision of Kerala cabinet to empower to empower local bodies to cull wild boars. According to MP, the issue of wild boar menace in Kerala was fabricated, and the cabinet’s decision will impact the country as a whole. She added that she has a doubt whether Kerala has data on number of wild boars. “We need to have a scientific approach to reach the conclusion that culling is the solution," she pointed out.
However, according to Saseendran, the Centre has not conducted any study on the population growth of wild animals. Similarly, the proportionate growth is also undetermined. He added that based on the reports published five years ago the situation in Kerala cannot be handled now.
