Mananthavady: Kerala Forest Department(KFD) has decided to give relaxation to pregnant women staffers concerning their dress code.

As per the new order of the department, pregnant women are not required to wear their official uniform which includes pants and a belt. From six months of pregnancy, the woman can wear a khaki colour saree and blouse as their uniform.

Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Administration) Dr P Pukazhenthi has issued an order in this regard.

Officials in the ranks of ranger, section forest officer, beat forest officer and reserve forest watcher are allowed to replace their uniform with saree and blouse.

The move is aimed at reducing the physical difficulties of the pregnant woman and improving their morale, said an official concerned.

However, a noteworthy opinion among the netizens is that the ‘saree only’ mandate may have some practical difficulties and it would be better if the department allows the women employees to wear a dress of their choice from a set of alternatives.
