Thiruvanathapuram: Evidences have emerged of KSEB review of Kerala floods 2018, that the water level in the dams rose several weeks before the floods. The meeting convened by KSEB chief on July 25 had reviewed that the water levels of important dams rose dangerously. Yet the water was released only on August 9.
The order issued by KSEB on August 1, 2018 stated that the unusual rain experienced then had caused the water in the dams to rise quickly. It also mentioned about the immediate measures that had to be taken under the circumstances. The order also granted permission to dam safety chief engineer to seek approval from district collectors and disaster management authority.
The dam was opened only 9 days after the situation turned dangerous. The evidences reveal that KSEB lapsed in releasing the water in different stages and maintaining a safe water level.
