5 bodies recovered; more children among missing persons in Kokkayar

Thiruvananthapuram: More dead bodies were unexpectedly recovered from the landslide-hit regions of Kottayam district amid rescue operations. The bodies of two more people who were not in the list of missing persons were retrieved on Sunday.

Five dead bodies including that of a baby, recovered from the different regions of Idukki, Kottayam and Pathanamthitta districts. The rescuers said that only body parts could be retrieved from many disaster-hit places. Four dead bodies were recovered from Koottikkal and Plappally of Kottayam on Sunday.

Among the 8 persons who went missing at Kokkayar, five are reportedly children. As of now, seven houses were completely damaged at Kokkayar. A dog squad has been deployed in this region for rescue missions. Excavators also were brought for rescue operations.
