Minister Saji Cheriyan calls for high alert in Kuttanad, Chengannur as heavy rains batter Kerala

Alappuzha: The Kerala state Minister for Fisheries Saji Cheriyan has called for high alert in Kuttanad after Kakki dam opened shutters on Monday. “Chances are high that water levels in rivers may rise at night. Extra care must be given in Kuttanad than Chengannur. We are working hard to evacuate people to safer zones,” said Saji Cheriyan.

He also urged the people in Pandanadu and Thiruvanvandoor to be high alert.

“By Tuesday morning water from Kakki dam will reach Kuttanad and Chengannur regions. Water level may rise up to 1.5 feets. We are evacuating all people who live in coastal areas,” added Saji Cheriyan.
