Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Police Chief Anil Kant on Saturday sought the details about the cops in the state force accused in criminal cases. Kant has directed the respective unit heads to submit the reports concerned by 5 pm on Tuesday.
Earlier, Kant had directed unit heads to take strict actions against the tainted members of the police force. The new direction comes as a continuation of that.
The list of the accused needs to be prepared by IGs, DIGs, city police commissioners and district police chiefs. The officials will collect information about cops involved in POCSO, rape and vigilance cases. The DGP has also sought information about cops who have faced punishements, including suspension, within the last month. Further, the officials will also examine intelligence reports from the past to catch the wrongdoers.
The move comes at a time when unholy nexus between cops and goons in the state is in the limelight. Meanwhile, a new SHO took charge of the Mangalapuram Police Station, where all cops faced department-level action for alleged connections with goon gangs. Similarly, Circle Inspectors, who faced department-level action have been replaced with new appointees.
Suresh V Nair, former Thiruvalla SHO, suspended for a custodial death, and aiding the sand mafia, was reinstated back in service. He is appointed in the Police control room in Tanur.
24 Station House Officers (SHOs) have been transferred across the state.
