Kochi: A man and his father were arrested at Pachalam here for allegedly attacking his wife and her father over dowry demand. The accused are identified as Jipson, husband of Chakkaraparambu native Diana and his father Peter. Though Jipson's mother is also booked, she is not taken into custody.

As per the complaint, Jipson and his family brutally assaulted Diana and her father George. In the attack, George suffered injuries and his legs and ribs were fractured.

Diana and Jipson got married on April 12. Though Diana's family was gifted 50 sovereigns of gold at the time of the marriage, it is alleged that her husband and in-laws tortured her demanding more gold. As per the complaint, her husband and in-laws physically assaulted her and denied food to her. She was thrown out of the house when she ate food without permission.

The priest who solemnised the marriage intervened and settled the issue. However, the family continued to torture her. She filed a complaint with the police on July 12. Following this, the couple were asked to go for counselling.

Jipson manhandled Diana's father when he arrived at his house to solve the matter.Diana then filed another complaint. However, she alleged that the police did not act on her complaint of dowry harassment.
