Minister, staff test positive; CM's office closed down partially


Thiruvananthapuram: Increasing Covid-19 cases in the state has put the functioning of the important offices in jeopardy. Chief Minister's Office has been closed partially. The staff of several ministers, including forest and devaswom, have tested positive of Coronavirus.

Minister V Sivankutty also tested positive on Tuesday morning.

The central library in the secretariat is closed down completely till January 23. It is feared that a new cluster would be formed in the state secretariat.

The office of the forest minister AK Saseendran was temporarily closed down three days ago.

Staff organisations are demanding to reinstate work from home option at least till the rank of Under Secretary.

Health Minister Veena George urged the public to exercise extreme caution after the daily Covid cases reported in the state crossed 22,000 on Monday.

The number of Covid cases had declined to 1,824 on December 26. However, the cases surged again after Christmas and New Year celebrations in the state. By January 7, the daily cases touched 5,000 and further increased four-fold within just 10 days. Over 12,000 cases were reported on January 12 and it spiked to 22,000 on January 17, said the health minister.
