Kerala continues to witness spike in COVID cases; reports 7283 infections, 6767 recoveries in 24 hrs

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala has reported 7,283 COVID cases on Friday, stated the press release from the office of health minister KK Shailaja. Meanwhile, 6767 patients have recovered from the infection in the state in the past 24 hours.

Malappuram reported the highest number of cases in the state with 1025 people testing positive, followed by Kozhikode - 970, Thrissur - 809, Palakkad - 648, Ernakulam - 606, Thiruvananthapuram - 595, Alappuzha - 563, Kottayam - 432, Kollam - 418, Kannur- 405, Pathanamthitta - 296, Kasaragod - 234, Wayanad - 158 and Idukki - 124.

24 more COVID deaths have been confirmed in the state. Thiruvananthapuram Kanjirampara native Marykkutty (56), Manakkad native Sumathi (48), Jagathy native Santhamma (80), Vallakkadavu native Thankamma (84), Manakkad native Chellapan (71), Pathanamthitta native Rangan (70), Idukki native Thomas (73), Thrissur Neduppuzha native Anthony (70), Peramangalam native Savitha (30), Kottuvalli native Raveendran (80), Kattakambal native Premarajan (54)Chemmanthitta native Kamu (80), Kozhikkode Payyoli native Asainar (92), Chevayur native Padmavathy (82), Balusserry native Balan (65), Kannur Nettur native Saiya (60), Kayachira native VP Ahammad (59), Thalassery native Nabeesu (72), Padappanangad native KP Ayisha (85), Cheruparambu native Nani (60)Chavasserry native Abdulla (73), Udayagiri native Hajira Beevi (90), Pariyaram native Narayanan Nabiar and Kurara Padmanabhan (55) are the people confirmed on Friday, to have succumbed to COVID.

Out of the total positive cases in the state, 144 people came from outside. 5,731 people contracted the disease through contact. The source of infection of 1158 people are unknown. The district wise breakdown of contact cases are Malappuram – 786, Kozhikode - 878, Thrissur - 795, Palakkad - 434, Ernakulam - 184, Thiruvananthapuram - 405, Alappuzha - 543, Kottayam - 268, Kollam - 410, Kannur - 369, Pathanamthitta - 227, Kasaragod - 214, Wayanad - 149 and Idukki - 69.

250 health workers also contracted the virus in the last 24 hours. The district wise distribution of health workers who tested positive are Ernakulam - 76, Malappuram - 65, Kottayam - 24, Alappuzha - 18, Palakkad - 17, Thiruvananthapuram - 11, Kasaragod - 10, Kozhikode - 8, Kannur - 5, Pathanamthitta and Thrissur with 4 cases each.

6767 people have recovered from the disease in the state. Thiruvananthapuram - 780, Kollam - 767, Pathanamthitta - 257, Alappuzha - 181, Kottayam - 246, Idukki - 53, Ernakulam - 84, Thrissur - 831, Palakkad - 322, Malappuram - 432, Kozhikode - 1154, Wayanad -155, Kannur - 440 and Kasaragod - 306. With this, there are 95,008 active COVID cases in the state. 2,28,998 people have recovered from the disease.

Currently, there are 2,76,727 people are under observation in the state. 2,51,145 people are under home/institutional quarantine, while 25,582 are in hospitals.

51,836 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. So far, 38,28,728 samples have been tested including routine samples, airport surveillance, pooled sentinel, CB nat, Trunat, CLIA and Antigen Asse.

8 new hotspots have been declared in the state on Friday. Thazhakkara (ward- 8) Nooranadu (13), Chambakkulam (13), Chengannur (20) in Alappuzha district, Elanji (9), Keerambara (7, sub ward- 2), Varappuzha (10), Mulangolli (8) of Ernakulam district are the new hotspots.

8 places have also been removed from the hotspot list. There are currently 643 hotspots in the state.
