He clarified that he had not resigned from the party's primary membership.
Thomas expressed his discontent with the current state of the party. He stated that it has become dysfunctional and that ordinary workers cannot function within its framework. He referred to himself as a "living martyr" for the UDF and stated that his resignation was due to being unable to tolerate anti-democratic organisational activities.
Responding to speculation about his potential involvement with the BJP, Thomas said people could also say he was ready to associate with the CPM (Communist Party of India - Marxist) or the Congress. He clarified that he had not yet decided about joining another party.
Having served as the district chairman of UDF for 20 years, Thomas had previously been a candidate for the Thiruvalla constituency in 2006 and 2011, but was unsuccessful. Over the years, Thomas has held various positions such as Kerala Students’ Congress (Mani) state president, Youth Front (M) state president, Kerala Congress (M) state general secretary, and Kozhencherry panchayat president.
