New Delhi: Reports have emerged that senior Congress leader Oommen Chandy is trying to persuade AICC interim President Sonia Gandhi to halt the KPCC reorganisation. Chandy will meet Gandhi on Wednesday to hold discussions in this regard. It is learnt that he will urge her to halt the reorganisation as AICC elections are around the corner.
In Kerala, A and I groups of Congress opposed extensive reorganisation. The leaders made it clear during the KPCC leaders’ summit held on November 2. Many senior leaders in the state upheld the view that the organization level election should not be entertained. However, KPCC President maintained that most DCCs favoured reorganisation. So, apparently, Chandy’s talks with Gandhi in New Delhi is expected to turn crucial.
Meanwhile, membership campaigns have already started in the state and will continue till March 2022.
Also, AICC has been directed to conduct elections for all posts including the KPCC chief. So, it is highly probable that Chandy will influence the AICC leadership to halt the ongoing reorganisation and raise the stance of A and I groups.
Chandy’s move comes at a time when discussions for electing the KPCC secretary are about to begin. Meanwhile, Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala had met High Command in New Delhi with a similar demand. However, he had not received any direction or information on the matter.
