Kerala clocks 7,224 new COVID cases, 47 deaths, 7,638 recoveries
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 7,224 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday, informed the health department in a press release. 47 new fatalities were also reported on Thursday.
Along with 47 fresh COVID deaths, the health department also reported 372 deaths that are newly certified as Covid-19 deaths based on revised rules. With this, the death toll climbed to 35,040 in the state.
The test positivity rate was recorded at 9.89 percent.
The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Thiruvananthapuram-1095, Ernakulam-922, Thrissur-724, Kozhikode-708, Kollam-694, Kottayam- 560, Kannur-471, Pathanamthitta-448, Palakkad-335, Malappuram-333, Idukki-306, Wayanad-254, Alappuzha-250 and Kasaragod-164.
A total of 73,015 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The local bodies have been categorised based on the weekly infection population ratio (WIPR). WIPR is above 10 in 46 wards of 39 local self-government bodies.
2,18,914 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 2,13,340 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 5,574 people are in hospitals. 345 people were taken to hospitals on Thursday.
Among the 69,625 active Covid cases reported, only 6.7 percent of patients are admitted to hospitals/field hospitals.
33 of the new COVID patients were returned from outside the state. 6,679 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 473 patients remains unidentified. 39 health workers also tested positive for Covid-19.
Meanwhile, 7,638 recoveries were also reported in the state.

49,36,791 people were recovered from the disease so far.
