Kerala clocks 6,468 new COVID cases, death toll climbs to 35,685
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 6,468 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday, informed the health department in a press release.
Along with 23 new fatalities, the health department also reported 151 deaths that are newly certified as Covid-19 deaths based on revised rules. With this, the death toll climbed to 35,685 in the state.
The test positivity rate was declined to 8.99 percent.
The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Ernakulam-907, Thiruvananthapuram-850, Thrissur-772, Kozhikode-748, Kollam-591, Kottayam- 515, Kannur-431, Idukki-325, Palakkad-313, Alappuzha-250, Malappuram-250, Wayanad-192, Pathanamthitta-189 and Kasaragod-135.
A total of 71,906 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.The local bodies have been categorised based on the weekly infection population ratio (WIPR). WIPR is above 10 in 46 wards of 39 local self-government bodies.
2,25,227 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 2,19,885 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 5,342 people are in hospitals.345 people were taken to hospitals on Saturday.
Among the 68,630 active Covid cases reported, only 6.7 percent of patients are admitted to hospitals/field hospitals.
28 of the new COVID patients were returned from outside the state. 5,914 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 497 patients remains unidentified. 29 health workers also tested positive for Covid-19.
Meanwhile, 6,468 recoveries were also reported in the state.
The district-wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram –1017, Kollam-517, Pathanamthitta-541, Alappuzha-217, Kottayam-546, Idukki-362, Ernakulam-772, Thrissur-854, Palakkad-259, Malappuram-282, Kozhikode-616, Wayanad-56, Kannur-341 and Kasaragod-88.
49,50,281 people were recovered from the disease so far.
