Kerala clocks 5,023 new COVID cases on Wednesday, TPR at 8.15 per cent

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala reported 5,023 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, informed the health department in a press release. The test positivity rate was reported at 8.15 per cent.

Along with 52 new COVID deaths, the health department also reported 173 deaths that are newly certified as Covid-19 deaths based on the revised rules. With this, the death toll climbed to 42,239 in the state.

The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Ernakulam-825, Kozhikode-574, Thiruvananthapuram-574, Kottayam-437, Kollam-364, Malappuram-342, Thrissur-337, Idukki-299, Alappuzha-282, Pathanamthitta-252, Palakkad- 230, Wayanad-225 Kannur-188 and Kasaragod-94.

A total of 61,612 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

1,35,857 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 1,32,929 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 2,928 people are in hospitals. 443 people were taken to hospitals on Sunday.

Among the 47,354 active Covid cases reported, only 6.6 per cent of patients are admitted to hospitals/field hospitals.

Along with 13 new COVID deaths, the health department also reported 54 deaths that are newly certified as Covid-19 deaths based on the revised rules. Apart from this, 121 more deaths recorded late due to the delay in obtaining the documents were also added to the list of COVID deaths. With this, the death toll climbed to 64,591 in the state.

Among the new patients, 16 were returned from outside the state. 4,646 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 320 patients remains unidentified. 41 health workers also tested positive for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, 11,077 recoveries were also reported in the state.

The district-wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram- 1,273, Kollam-117, Pathanamthitta-260, Alappuzha-748, Kottayam-1,286, Idukki-617, Ernakulam-2,923, Thrissur-999, Palakkad-545, Malappuram-581, Kozhikode-925, Wayanad-285, Kannur-444, and Kasaragod-74.

63,71,030 people were recovered from the disease so far.
