Kerala clocks 4,350 new COVID cases, death toll touches 39,838
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 4,350 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday, informed the health department in a press release.
Along with 19 new COVID deaths, the health department also reported 140 deaths that are newly certified as Covid-19 deaths based on the revised rules. With this, the death toll climbed to 39,838 in the state.
The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Ernakulam-823, Thiruvananthapuram-670, Kozhikode-554, Thrissur-434, Kottayam- 319, Malappuram-253, Kannur-225, Kollam-200, Wayanad-167, Palakkad-166, Pathanamthitta-165, Idukki-164, Alappuzha-131 and Kasaragod-79.
A total of 48,112 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The local bodies have been categorised based on the weekly infection population ratio (WIPR). WIPR is above 10 in 21 wards of 19 local self-government bodies.
1,62,218 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 1,57,543 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 4,675 people are in hospitals. 257 people were taken to hospitals on Sunday.
Among the 47,001 active Covid cases reported, only 7 percent of patients are admitted to hospitals/field hospitals.
11 of the new COVID patients were returned from outside the state. 4,049 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 272 patients remains unidentified. 18 health workers also tested positive for Covid-19.
Meanwhile, 5,691 recoveries were also reported in the state.
The district-wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram- 769, Kollam-544, Pathanamthitta-7, Alappuzha-151, Kottayam-471, Idukki-266, Ernakulam-1078, Thrissur-479, Palakkad-284, Malappuram-228, Kozhikode-659, Wayanad-335, Kannur-335 and Kasaragod-85.
50,46,219 people were recovered from the disease so far.
