Kerala clocks 2,435 new Covid cases on Saturday


Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 2,435 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday, informed the health department in a press release.

The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Thiruvananthapuram-481, Ernakulam-400, Kozhikode-299, Kannur-180, Thrissur-171, Kollam-155, Kottayam-153, Malappuram-138, Pathanamthitta-130, Alappuzha-107, Wayanad-65, Palakkad-58, Idukki-57, and Kasaragod-41.

A total of 48,658 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The local bodies have been categorised based on the weekly infection population ratio (WIPR). WIPR is above 10 in 6 wards of 5 local self-government bodies. The test positivity rate was jumped to 5 percent.

1,09,032 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 93,190 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 15,842 people are in hospitals. 169 people were taken to hospitals on Friday.

Among the 18,904 active Covid cases reported, only 10.7 percent of patients are admitted to hospitals/field hospitals.

Along with 22 new COVID deaths, the health department also reported 219 deaths that are newly certified as Covid-19 deaths based on the revised rules. With this, the death toll climbed to 48,035 in the state.

38 of the new COVID patients were returned from outside the state. 2,241 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 134 patients remains unidentified. 22 health workers also tested positive for Covid-19.

Meanwhile, 2,704 recoveries were also reported in the state. 51,81,981 people were recovered from the disease so far.

The district-wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram-487, Kollam-276, Pathanamthitta-124, Alappuzha-138, Kottayam-244, Idukki-118, Ernakulam-434, Thrissur-161, Palakkad-27, Malappuram-73, Kozhikode-311, Wayanad-101, Kannur-166 and Kasaragod-44.
