Kerala Budget: Rs 82 cr for tourism marketing
Thiruvananthapuram: Finance Minister Thomas Issac said that the state government will focus on tourism promotion in the next financial year. The state budget 2018 has allotted Rs 82 crore for promotional and marketing campaign of tourism.
Apart from this, Rs 82 crore has also been allotted for tourism sector. The State budget has set aside Rs 40 crore for heritage conservation projects.
“Kerala Tourism Department has won over 9 prestigious awards,” said Issac while presenting the budget.
In order to promote the cultural festivals like Onam, Boat race and Kochi-Muziris Biennale, Rs 16 crore is set aside.
In the employment sector, the Minister announced a package of Rs 80 crore to encourage startup initiatives. Development and Innovation Strategic Council of Kerala (K-DISC) will get Rs 20 crore to boost innovations and provide training for innovative projects.
Technopark will get Rs 84 crore and Inforpark will get Rs 67 crore. The budget has estimated Rs 30 crore for Electronic Hardware Mission.
Various schemes and proposals were made in the budget to revive the public institutions under crisis. A working capital of Rs 54 crore will be given to institutions under public sector.
In order to assure availability of medicines to cancer patients, a Cancer Medicine Factory will be established in Kerala. The State Budget has set aside Rs 20 crore for manufacturing cancer medicines. A generic medicine manufacturing company will be established under the banner of Kerala Generic.
The Finance Minister added that special projects will be executed to encourage industrial sector. The budget has allotted Rs 132 crore to Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC). KINFRA parks will get Rs 230 crore. The government will allocate KIIFB fund for other industrial parks.
