Kerala Budget: Rs 493 cr for Higher Education dept, over 1000 teaching posts on cards
Thiruvananthapuram: The annual budget of the state government allocated Rs 493 crore for higher education department. Of this total fund, Rs 125 crore has been earmarked for Kerala university, University of Calicut, Kannur University and Mahatma Gandhi University, Malayalam University, Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit and Kerala Law Academy. At the same time, Rs 16 crore will be granted to Higher Education Council and Rs 9 crore will be given to Kerala Council for Historical Research (KCHR).
Rs 50 cr will be sanctioned for Additional Skill Acquisition Programme (ASAP).
KR Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science and Arts will get a fund of Rs 5 cr as per the budget. In this fund, Rs 2 cr each will be given for visual documentation in museums.
In order to ensure proper infrastructure on campuses, Rs 142 cr will be earmarked for construction of buildings in colleges.
Within March, over 1000 new teaching posts will be created in all colleges.
60 new courses will be sanctioned in colleges. These courses will be created as new generation inter-disciplinary courses. Colleges must have NAC accreditation with A plus grade to apply for the new course. Special relaxation will be given to new government colleges undertaken by trust of Scheduled Caste.
