1,06,000 houses under Life Mission project, Rs 10 cr for studies of students evacuated from Ukraine

Thiruvananthapuram: Finance Minister KN Balagopal has announced that 1,06,000 houses will be constructed in the state under Life Mission project. He was presenting the annual budget here on Friday.

"So far, 2,76,465 houses were constructed under Life Mission project. The government is aiming to construct 1,06,000 individual houses and 2,999 flats by including the loan from Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO). Life Mission project has a total fund allocation of Rs 1871.82 cr including the central aid of Rs 327 cr under Pradhan Mantri Aawaz Yojana.

In a major move, the government also reserved Rs 10 cr for further studies of students who were evacuated from war-torn Ukraine.

The state budget allotted Rs 1600 cr for Re-build Kerala project. Rs 507 cr is also granted for establishing 10 basic facilities in the state.

A total of 3123 students who were stranded in Ukraine were taken to Kerala through NORKA. They were taken to the state in 15 chartered flights.

The government will help the students who lost certificates and other documents to get it back. The finance minister also promised help for the Ukraine returnees to continue studies.

“Intervention of central government is necessary to make arrangements for further studies of these students. NORKA will open a special cell for coordinating these activities. Rs 10 cr allotted for the same. NORKA will prepare a data bank of students in foreign countries.
