Thiruvananthapuram: The seventh session of the 15th Kerala Assembly began on Monday. The panel of chairpersons who will maintain order in the Assembly in the absence of the speaker and deputy speaker has been announced.

The all-female panel comprises CK Asha, U Prathibha and RMP MLA KK Rema. The panel has two members from the ruling side and one MLA from the opposition.

New Assembly speaker AN Shamseer proposed inclusion of female members in the panel.

The LDF was expecting the opposition to nominate Thrikkakara MLA Uma Thomas but instead nominated KK Rema who contested from Vadakara as a UDF-backed candidate.

This is the first time in the history of Kerala Assembly that three female members are being nominated to the panel.

A total of 515 members have been, so far, included in the panel since the first Assembly, of which only 32 were women.
