Kerala amends legislation to ensure safety of children in video productions, TV channel shows

Kochi: Kerala government has amended anti-child labour legislation to ensure the protection and safety of children involved in video productions and TV channel shows. As per the new mandate, the producer should get written consent from the respective district labour officer for involving children. The other major directions are as follows:

  • Five hours in a day is the maximum duration permitted for children in any TV programmes or shows
  • The producer should enlist the name and details of the child and parents in the application submitted before the labour officer
  • The consent of parents is mandatory
  • Shooting should not affect the regular classes of the children
  • Nutrition, hygiene, safe shelter, atmosphere for studies should be provided
  • A person to take care the things of the children should be appointed in the 1 person: 5 children ratio
