Kochi: Minister for Industry, Law and Coir, P Rajeeve, on Tuesday said that Kerala is leading in oleoresin production. “Kerala accounts for around 50 to 60 per cent of India’s oleoresin production. Interestingly, Kochi is emerging as a hub,” he said.

Rajeeve was addressing a gathering at Kerala Spice Conference. He also elaborated on the achievement of the state in food processing and spice processing.

Kerala has emerged as a major food processing centre in India and in the next financial year 10 mini food parks will be developed in the state, he said.

He pointed out that 9,652 out of the total 60,667 enterprises registered in Kerala during the last 180 days are under food technology sector.

On the other hand, Kerala is a global hub in spices processing and has become the “first state to form a plantation directorate in India,” he added.
