Thiruvananthapuram: Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Bhayya Toppe said that that Kerala is an example for other states in COVID-19 prevention activities. He said this while interacting with Kerala Health Minister KK Shailaja through video conferencing. The virtual meeting between the two health ministers was held in the context of the number of patients increasing exponentially in Maharashtra.
Rajesh Bhayya Tope said that Kerala was able to control the death rate despite having a large number of COVID-19 patients. He also said that it is appreciable that Kerala was able to achieve progress including in plasma therapy treatment.
The two health ministers discussed at length about the the Standard Operating Procedures, guidelines, treatment and testing. Apart from this, topics including hospital activities, research, prevention activities, training of healthcare employees, safety precautions and lockdown were also discussed.
Maharashtra is the state with the highest number of COVID-19 cases in India. Rajesh Bhayya Tope said that even though the government is trying everything in its power to contain the transmission of the disease, they are not able make the people living in places like Dharavi follow social distancing.
Minister KK Shailaja said that Kerala successfully implemented home quarantine in the first and second phases of lockdown in the state. She also added that there are many people in the state who do not even have toilet facilities in their rooms to be properly quarantined. The government has kept them under institutional quarantine.
Minister also said that the state has arranged counseling and mental support to more than eight lakh people with the help of more than 1100 counselors. Meanwhile, Rajesh Tope was excited about the motivational campaign initiated by Kerala for stimulating the mental health of health care workers in the state.
Minister KK Shailaja and celebrities including Mohanlal had interacted with the health workers to boost their morale. Maharashtra health minister said that this was a completely new experience for him.
Earlier Karnataka health minister had also interacted with KK Shailaja in a similar way to understand the actions taken by Kerala to contain the pandemic.
