Govt to consider closure of colleges, decision likely on Thursday: Minister R Bindhu

Thiruvananthapuram: Higher Education minister Dr R Bindhu has hinted at plans to close all higher educational institutions amid the surge in COVID-19 cases in the state. The minister informed the matter through a press release on Tuesday.

The department is planning to switch classes online. A final decision regarding this will be taken as per the recommendation in the COVID review meeting on Thursday.

If Covid cluster forms in any college, the principal must take action to close the college for the next 15 days, informed the minister.

Meanwhile, COVID-19 infections in Kerala on Tuesday witnessed a steep rise as the state reported 28,481 new positive cases taking the infection count to 54,07,312.
